Intel Corp.: The Santa Clara, Calif.-based computer chip manufacturer reported that its earnings soared 72% to a record $171 million. Revenue jumped 30% to $968 million. The company said a surge in orders for its most popular microprocessor--the 32-bit 386 chip--was the main reason for the stronger results.
