Hearings on Safety of Mobile Homes
The California Department of Housing and Community Development will hold 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. hearings in San Diego, San Bernardino and Ventura on whether current regulations are adequate to protect mobile homes from earthquake damage.
The San Diego hearing will be July 24, in B109 Auditorium of the State Building, 1350 Front St.; the San Bernardino session will be July 25 in the supervisors chambers of the County Government Center, 385 N. Arrowhead Ave., and the Ventura hearing will be July 26 in the cafeteria of Anacapa Middle School, 100 S. Mills Road.
The department found that 24% of the 2,434 mobile homes in 27 parks in San Benito, Santa Clara and Santa Cruz counties were toppled in the Oct. 17, 1989, Loma Prieta earthquake.
