San Diego
Two police cars collided Wednesday while responding to a call from an officer chasing a suspected car thief on foot, a police spokesman said.
Officers Bradley Phelps and James Dossett were treated at Mercy Hospital, a hospital spokeswoman said. The other officer, Freddie Thornton, was being kept overnight for observation because he lost consciousness.
Thornton and Phelps were in one car and Dossett in the other, when they hit on Gamma Street between 38th and 39th streets, police spokesman David Cohen said.
The three were responding to a call for help from Officer Constantine Markes, who was pursuing a man he suspected was driving a stolen car.
Police arrested Luis Morales Martinez, 19, who is being held in County Jail on $5,000 bail on suspicion of car theft. A jail spokeswoman also said there was an immigration hold on Morales.
