Cyclist Falls, Is Hit and Killed by Van
ANAHEIM — A 50-year-old Anaheim man was killed Tuesday morning when he fell while riding his bicycle and was hit by a van, police said.
Jarrett Palmer was riding in a foot-wide gutter between the pavement and curb when the accident happened about 7:50 a.m. on La Palma Avenue near Paradise Street.
As Palmer fell, he was struck by a passing van heading in the same direction. The van was driven by Nelson Baker of Norco, police said.
“As the van went by, the bicyclist hit his head on the side of the van’s tire,” Police Investigator Jo Zito said. “He was not run over by the vehicle.”
Palmer was pronounced dead at UCI Medical Center in Orange. Zito said Palmer was wearing a safety helmet and that Baker had not been cited in the mishap.
