Head-On Crash Kills Woman, Injures 2
One person was killed and two others were injured Sunday afternoon when a speeding car crossed the center divider and crashed head-on into another vehicle on the Golden State Freeway near Castaic, authorities said.
A 2-month-old baby riding in a car seat was uninjured in the 5:20 p.m. collision about a mile and a half north of Templin Highway, said California Highway Patrol Officer Curtis Myers.
Northbound traffic was congested for several miles as crews cleaned up debris from the accident.
Myers said a 54-year-old Pasadena woman was driving south on the freeway when she lost control and swerved across the center divider into northbound traffic lanes, colliding with a car carrying a family of three from San Francisco.
The woman was pronounced dead at the scene.
The driver of the second car, Christopher Ellision, 36, was in stable condition after he was airlifted with leg injuries to Holy Cross Medical Center in Mission Hills. His wife, Mary, 27, and their baby, Claire, were taken by ambulance to Henry Mayo Newhall Memorial Hospital in Valencia. Mary Ellision’s condition was not available.
