Man Slain Near Marina del Rey; Police Believe Robbery Was Motive
Robbery was the apparent motive in the shooting death of a Mar Vista man found dead of multiple gunshot wounds near a Ballona Creek bicycle path Saturday morning, authorities said.
A passer-by discovered the man’s body on an embankment in the largely undeveloped wetlands area near Marina del Rey at 6 a.m., about half a mile east of Lincoln Boulevard, said Sgt. Danny Graham, watch commander at the Los Angeles Police Department’s Pacific Division.
David Campbell, supervising investigator for the Los Angeles County coroner’s office, identified the man as John Carl Jones, 46.
“He was dead at the scene,” Graham said. “He sustained multiple gunshot wounds and robbery is the apparent motive.”
Graham, who declined to give further details, said the investigation is continuing.
