Inmate Death Attributed to Natural Causes
A 42-year-old man who was in sheriff’s custody died Saturday in Tri-City Medical Center in Oceanside, apparently of natural causes, authorities said.
The victim was identified as Raymond Albert Brinkerhoff, an Oceanside truck driver.
Brinkerhoff had been in sheriff’s custody since March 28 on drug and weapons charges, a sheriff’s spokeswoman said.
On June 15, the spokeswoman said, authorities transported him from the county jail in Vista to Tri-City Hospital after he had vomited blood and complained of abdominal pains. He had a history of bleeding ulcers and a cancerous throat condition, according to the sheriff’s office.
Brinkerhoff suffered cardiac failure in the hospital early Saturday and was pronounced dead at 5:37 a.m., said a spokesman for the county Medical Examiner’s office.
