WORLD IN BRIEF : CHINA : Deng Ties Protests to Poor Leadership

Senior Chinese leader Deng Xiaoping blamed poor Communist Party leadership as the root cause of last year’s pro-democracy demonstrations, West German sources said. And the new Communist Party chief, Jiang Zemin, said he cannot rule out more such demonstrations this year, the sources added. They were reporting comments made in talks with former West German Chancellor Helmut Schmidt in Beijing on Monday.
