Haley Scores in Seventh; El Toro Wins, 1-0
EL TORO — Bo Haley’s run in the seventh inning allowed second-seeded El Toro High School to beat La Salle, 1-0, in a Southern Section 4-A baseball playoff game Friday.
El Toro’s (21-6) only offensive threat of the day generated its lone run. With one out in the seventh, Haley doubled for the Chargers’ second hit of the game. Scott Sebbo was then intentionally walked. Catcher Chad Hoelker followed by hitting into an apparent inning-ending double play.
La Salle first baseman Mario Gonzalez was unable to scoop up a low throw from second baseman Dan Miyake, however, allowing Haley to score.
The teams combined for just five hits in a pitching duel between El Toro’s Rob Johnson and La Salle’s Brian Esquival. Johnson struck out five and walked two in improving his record to 9-1.
Esquival retired the first 12 batters he faced before giving up a single to Sebbo to start the fifth inning.
