THE SIDELINES : Speed Skater Jansen Marries
JALAPA, S.C. — World Cup speed skating champion Dan Jansen, who has fought back from Olympic falls, has married Robin Wicker, a hotel executive. Athletes attending Saturday’s nuptials included speed skaters Bonnie Blair, Nick Thometz and Eric Flaim.
Jansen, 25, of West Allis, Wis., won the 500-meter men’s World Cup speed skating competition in Helsinki, Finland, last month. He has 151 points in the World Cup standings, led by Jens-Uwe Mey of East Germany with the maximum of 175 points.
In the 1988 Winter Olympics in Calgary, Jansen fell during the 500- and 1,000-meter races. His sister, Jane Beres, had died of leukemia on the day of his first race.
