Great Normand Scores Victory

NEW YORK — Great Normand took the lead entering the stretch and then held to win by a head over Phantom Breeze in the $36,000 Shelter Bay Stakes for older horses at Aqueduct.
The win was the first in three starts this year for Great Normand, who is owned by Victor Resk. He covered 1 1/16 miles on a turf course rated “good” in 1:46 2/5 and earned $21,600.
Great Normand, ridden by J.C. Ferrer and carrying 119 pounds, returned $28.20, $8 and $6.40. Phantom Breeze paid $2.80 and $2.40 and Kate’s Valentine, who was another 4 3/4 lengths back in third in the nine-horse field, returned $4.20 to show.
