COLLEGE ROUNDUP : Bakersfield Snaps Moorpark’s Streak at 46 Wins
The Moorpark College softball team’s 46-game Western State Conference home winning streak came to a frustrating end Wednesday with a 4-0 loss to Bakersfield.
Moorpark outhit Bakersfield, 10-4, but stranded 11 runners. Moorpark starter Robin Thomas lost her bid for a perfect game in the sixth when Bakersfield struck for three runs.
In the inning, Bakersfield’s Chris Tate drove in three runs with a two-out single to right-center field.
Moorpark’s home conference victory skein spanned seven years. Moorpark (24-9, 11-1 in conference play) had won 17 consecutive conference games.
Bakersfield’s Cindy Barraza struck out one and walked none in pitching a complete game for Bakersfield (10-2 in conference play).
Thomas (22-6) was three for three and Melissa Maples and Chris Singer each added two hits.
In another softball game:
Canyons 8, Valley 0--Michelle Ruffner threw a one-hitter, and Canyons banged out 11 singles and drew 12 walks in a Western State Conference game at Valley.
Ruffner (17-19) struck out four and did not surrender a hit until the fourth inning.
Debbie Rendall had four hits for Canyons (19-19, 4-8). Valley is 3-9 in conference play.
BASEBALL
The Master’s 14, Point Loma Nazarene 6--Craig Johnson had a single, two doubles and a home run to pace The Master’s in its District 3 home finale.
Master’s had 21 hits, including four home runs.
Jeff Preston had a single, a double and a home run for Master’s (24-19, 11-9 in District 3 play).
