Top fuel drag racer Darrell Gwynn, hospitalized in Aylesbury, England, after a racing accident last weekend, had his left arm amputated just below the elbow Thursday.
Infection set in after the arm was mangled in the accident, and doctors feared the infection might become life-threatening.
Gwynn also suffered a crushed spinal cord, but doctors said they don’t yet have an opinion regarding possible paralysis. He had movement in his right arm Thursday but no feeling from the waist down.
