NEW YORK — Jacques d’Amboise, a dancer in the New York City Ballet for 35 years, received the 39th annual Capezio Dance Award.
D’Amboise said he asked the Capezio Foundation to make out the $5,000 prize check directly to the National Dance Institute, which teaches schoolchildren to dance. D’Amboise is the institute’s founder and leader.
“If children are functioning in the arts at an early age, the arts will always be part of their lives,” D’Amboise says in the film “He Makes Me Feel Like Dancing,” part of which was shown during the award ceremony Thursday in the French Institute.
