PREP SOFTBALL ROUNDUP : Shortall Pitches Two-Hitter and Foothill Holds Off Rally to Defeat Woodbridge, 2-0
Kathy Shortall pitched a two-hitter and struck out six as Foothill High School defeated Woodbridge, 2-0, in the semifinals of the Woodbridge softball tournament Monday.
In the fifth inning, Shortall scored on a wild pitch and Shannon Ebert scored on a fielder’s choice for the Knights (11-6). Woodbridge loaded the bases in the bottom of the seventh, but Shortall caught a pop fly to end the game.
In another Woodbridge tournament game:
Fountain Valley 3, Huntington Beach 0--Rae Rice allowed only two hits in five innings for the victory at Harvard Park in Irvine. Rice (9-0) struck out six. Fountain Valley (12-4) scored three runs in the fourth on one hit. Huntington Beach committed four errors in the inning.
In the Righetti tournament:
University 1, Santa Barbara 0--Lisa Anthony tripled and pinch-runner Lisa McCracken scored on a wild pitch for the game’s only run. Shareen Patton (5-4) pitched a two-hitter and struck out 10 for the Trojans (7-8) in the consolation game.
