THE SIDELINES : Humphrey Fined in Traffic Case

LITTLETON, Colo. — Denver Broncos running back Bobby Humphrey today pleaded guilty to driving while impaired and speeding. He was fined $508 and ordered to perform 24 hours of public service.

Humphrey had been charged with the more serious offense of driving while under the influence of alcohol, but he pleaded guilty to the lesser charge and to speeding 34 m.p.h. in a 30-m.p.h. zone as part of a plea-bargain agreement. His jury trial on the DUI charge had been scheduled to begin today.

Besides imposing the fine, Arapahoe County Judge Alan R. Beckman sentenced Humphrey to 180 days in jail but suspended the jail term on the condition that the player successfully complete nine months of probation and other conditions of his sentence.
