ANGELS ’90 : PROFILING THE NEWCOMERS
DONNIE HILL
Age: 29
Position: Infielder
Major league experience: Five years, 32 days
How obtained: Signed as free agent, Jan. 5, 1990.
Pertinent stats: After being released by the Chicago White Sox before the 1989 season, Hill was signed by the Oakland Athletics to a triple-A contract and hit .261 with 23 RBIs at Tacoma.
Comments: A 1987 eye infection, caused by contact lenses, hampered Hill for a time, but the former Edison High School and Orange Coast College standout says he is completely over his vision problem. Hill’s main asset is versatility--he can play second base, shortstop and third base, and he can pinch-hit. He will play a utility role, filling in where needed.
