Crenshaw’s Banks Says He’ll Attend UC Irvine

Cornelius Banks, a member of Crenshaw High School’s 1989 state championship basketball team, plans to sign a letter of intent to attend UC Irvine, he said Thursday.
Banks, a 6-foot-5 swingman, averaged 15 points and eight rebounds this season as a freshman at Santa Monica City College.
Banks, who will have three years of eligibility remaining, said he chose Irvine partly because he expects to be able to contribute quickly next season. Irvine was 5-23 last season.
Guard David Hollaway of West L.A. College also has said he plans to sign with Irvine when the spring signing period begins April 11.
