Gregory Quitting Savanna

Savanna High School basketball Coach Tom Gregory said Friday he has accepted a coaching position at Ayala High School in Chino Hills.

Gregory, who has been the Rebels’ coach for the past 11 seasons, said the resignation will be effective at the end of the school year. Ayala is scheduled to open in September and will have only sophomores and freshmen in 1990-91.

“I live in Riverside and this will be a shorter drive, that was the No. 1 reason,� said Gregory, who will teach special education at Ayala. “I’m excited about starting a new program. I think I needed a change.�

Gregory had a record of 154-105 at Savanna. His teams won three Orange League championships and qualified for the Southern Section playoffs seven times.
