FitzPatrick to Join Raiders
James FitzPatrick, a 1986 first-round draft choice out of USC who was left unprotected by the San Diego Chargers in Plan B free agency, has agreed to a two-year contract with the Raiders, his agent, Leigh Steinberg, said Friday.
FitzPatrick, 6-feet-7 1/2 and 310 pounds, started five games last season but did not perform to the satisfaction of Coach Dan Henning. FitzPatrick, 26, was the 14th player drafted in ’86. His best season was in 1987, when he came back after the players’ strike to start the final nine games.
FitzPatrick is the second Plan B player to leave the Chargers for the Raiders this year. Earlier, the Raiders signed reserve linebacker Joe Campbell, a 1988 fourth-round choice out of New Mexico State.
