Moore Prevails in Mini Stock Main at Ventura
Paul Moore of Oxnard claimed the first main-event victory of the season at Ventura Raceway on Friday night in an exciting 15-lap Mini Stock figure-eight race before a crowd of 2,500.
Fillmore’s Jeff Drake held a half-lap lead in a congested field before he took himself and Camarillo’s David Jacquemin out of the race when he plowed into Jacquemin at the intersection on Lap 5. Terry Swauger of Ojai took the lead for a lap but Moore powered past Swauger in Turn 1 on the next lap to take the lead and hold on for the victory. Swauger finished second and Russ Warren of Ventura placed third.
Mike Kirby of Lomita overtook Bill Pate of Oxnard on Lap 8 of the 10-lap Street Stock figure-eight main event. Pate finished second and Rob Geurin took third.
Mini Stock eight-lap heat-race winners were Warren, Ken Hewitt of Moorpark and Gary Curtis of Camarillo.
The eight-lap Street Stock heat races were dominated by the husband-and-wife team of Rob and Becky Geurin of Harbor City.
