CAMARILLO : 3 Major Landowners OK Bond, Tax Plan
Three property owners near the Camarillo Airport were unanimous in favoring the sale of up to $31 million in bonds and levying a special tax to pay for improvements in the area, city officials said Monday.
The property owners’ election, conducted by mail, follows a City Council vote earlier this month approving formation of the West Camarillo Community Facilities District No. 1, made up of the three major property owners in the area, and levying a special tax against the owners to help pay for road and sewer improvements.
Approval was required by two-thirds of the owners before the tax could be levied. The vote clears the way for major new development on now-vacant land in west Camarillo.
The three properties in the 600-acre parcel that will make up the new district are the proposed Spanish Hills golf course and residential project owned by Orange County-based Pacific Land & Golf; the Kohl-Leonard Camarillo Center, a proposed business and commercial complex, and a 41-acre tract owned by Harry Gelles of Santa Barbara.
The City Council is scheduled to certify the results of the election Wednesday, said Assistant City Manager Larry Davis.
