Dolco Packaging Corp., a maker of food packaging products, said it became the first company to get federal approval to make egg cartons from recycled polystyrene packaging.
The approval from the Food and Drug Administration is “a significant development in plastic recycling efforts,” said Dolco, a unit of Olson Industries Inc. in Sherman Oaks.
Dolco, which is reorganizing under federal bankruptcy laws, said it will be allowed to make egg cartons from recycled meat trays, fast-food containers, school lunch trays and beverage cups made from polystyrene.
