It’s a Mod, Mod, Modigliani Painting: Amedeo Modigliani’s “The Pretty Shopkeeper†was sold for $10.9 million at auction in Paris on Sunday, breaking the world record for a work by the Italian artist. The piece is part of a collection of major artworks belonging to the Parisian couple Lucien and Marcelle Bourdon, up for sale at the Drouout auction house. The sale was conducted simultaneously in Tokyo and Paris by satellite linkup.
