Bid to Limit Incumbents’ Terms Fails

A petition drive in Inglewood aimed at limiting elected officials to three consecutive terms has died because of a lack of interest.

Supporters of the Charter amendment initiative, who said they were fighting stagnation and abuse of power among incumbent officeholders, failed to meet a Feb. 5 deadline to get on the June ballot. Signatures from 15% of the city’s 41,500 registered voters are needed for an initiative that would amend the City Charter; other initiatives require a petition from 10% of voters.

The group, known as Inglewood Citizens for Reasonable Reform, has until April 9 to qualify for the November ballot.
