OXNARD : Passenger Robs Taxi Driver at Knifepoint
A taxi passenger robbed the driver at knifepoint in Oxnard Wednesday and stole the cab, law enforcement officials said.
Norval Hathaway, 63, a driver for the Yellow Cab Co. of Oxnard, was dispatched at 11:15 a.m. to Commercial Avenue and Oxnard Boulevard to pick up a fare, said Sgt. Frank Porter of the Oxnard Police Deparment.
The man Hathaway picked up requested to go to 5th Street and Del Norte Boulevard, where he asked the driver to pull 20 feet off the roadway, Porter said.
When Hathaway stopped, the passenger put his arm around Hathaway’s neck and held a knife to his throat, Porter said.
The suspect told Hathaway to take the money from his pocket and place it on the seat, Porter said. The suspect told Hathaway to get out of the car and kneel on the ground.
Hathaway, who was not injured, reported a theft of $75.
A short time later, police located the abandoned cab on nearby Lombard Street, Porter said.
Police are seeking a black male between 5 feet, 4 inches tall and 5 feet, 6 inches tall, about 130 pounds, Porter said.
