PREP ROUNDUP : Allen, Doll Lead Katella to Sweep Over Foothill
Pinch-hitter Danny Allen hit a two-run double in the sixth inning to cap a four-run rally as Katella High School defeated Foothill, 6-5, in the first game of a nonleague doubleheader Tuesday at Boysen Park.
In the second game, Corey Doll struck out 11 and allowed two hits as host Katella (6-1) won, 4-3.
In other nonleague baseball games:
Liberty Christian 19, Coast Christian 7--Jeremy Anderson had two hits, including a triple and four runs batted in, and was the winning pitcher for Liberty Christian (4-2) at TeWinkle Park.
Rancho Alamitos 5, Mayfair 3--Visiting Rancho Alamitos (1-4) was led by Romeo Ponteres, who had four hits and three RBIs and Brian Osterode (1-2), who pitched a five-hitter.
Southern California Christian 11, Cal Lutheran 5--Host Southern California (2-1) scored five runs in the fifth to break a 4-4 tie.
Garden Grove 4, Long Beach Poly 0--Ron Wursthorn drove in a run with a sacrifice fly in the second and the host Argonauts (1-3) scored three unearned runs.
Anaheim 9, Sonora 4--Ernest Gonzalez had two hits and three RBIs and Zeke Barrios had three RBIs for visiting Anaheim (2-4).
In Garden Grove League boys’ tennis:
La Quinta 18, Los Amigos 0--Leandro Jajan swept, 6-0, 6-0, 6-0, for La Quinta (4-0, 1-0), which lost only eight of 116 games in the match at Los Amigos.
In nonleague boys’ tennis:
Santa Margarita 17, Marshall 1--Sean Krafts swept his sets, 6-1, 6-0, 6-0, for visiting Santa Margarita (4-2).
Fullerton 10, Canyon 8--Chris Hartshorn swept, 6-1, 6-2, 6-0, to lead Fullerton (5-1).
Mission Viejo 13, Foothill 5--Pat Bray swept, 6-2, 6-2, 6-0, to lead host Mission Viejo (3-1).
Laguna Beach 11, Capistrano Valley 7--Jon Leach improved to 15-0 by sweeping at No. 1 singles, 6-0, 6-0, 6-0, for the Artists (2-3).
Westminster 10, Santa Ana 8--Mino Tran and Todd Kawashima won their doubles sets, 6-2, 6-1, 6-1, for host Westminster (1-4).
Western 9, Costa Mesa 9 (Western wins on games, 80-76)--Ed Peregrino won, 7-5, 6-1, 6-1, for host Western (4-1).
In South Coast League golf:
El Toro 200, Irvine 212--Joe Garner shot a par 36 to lead El Toro (7-0, 1-0) at Rancho San Joaquin.
In Pacific Coast League golf:
Dana Hills 194, San Clemente 211--Dan Buchner and Vernon Edler each shot a one-over 37 for nine holes to lead Dana Hills (2-0, 1-0) at the Pacific Golf Club in San Clemente.
Trabuco Hills 207, Tustin 271--John Fischer shot a one-over 37 to lead Trabuco Hills (4-2) at Tustin Ranch golf course.
In Olympic League boys’ volleyball:
Calvary Chapel 3, Ontario Christian 0--Host Calvary Chapel swept, 15-8, 15-3, 15-5. Steve Flores had 18 kills to lead Calvary Chapel (2-1).
Santa Margarita 3, Capistrano Valley Christian 0--Mike Vicar had six kills and two blocks to lead Santa Margarita (5-0) to a 15-5, 15-5, 15-5 victory.
In nonleague boys’ volleyball:
Capistrano Valley 3, University 1--Ryan Benn had 16 kills and Chris Carlin had 12 to lead host Capistrano Valley (2-1) to a 15-11, 15-11, 11-15, 16-14 victory.
Irvine 3, Fountain Valley 2--Chris Swanner and Brian Trout each had 15 kills to lead host Irvine (1-1) to a 15-4, 12-15, 15-1, 14-16, 15-6 victory.
