WORLD : Bush to Meet With Key Allies
WASHINGTON — President Bush, continuing a round of consultation with NATO allies, will meet British Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher on April 13 and French President Francois Mitterrand on April 19, the White House said today.
The meeting with Thatcher will take place in the Atlantic resort island of Bermuda. The meeting with Mitterrand will be held in Florida but a site has not yet been selected.
British officials said Eastern Europe and South Africa would dominate the informal discussions between Bush and Thatcher. Thatcher has been deeply concerned over the pace of negotiations for German reunification and other developments in Europe. Bush also has expressed surprise over the speed of the changes in Eastern Europe where Communist regimes are collapsing.
No reason or agenda was given for the unscheduled meeting between Bush and Mitterrand.
