BUENA PARK : Funds Sought for Sidewalk Ramps
In an effort to make city streets more accessible to the disabled, the City Council has applied for special funding to modify 20 intersections along Stanton and Knott avenues.
During the last six years, as many as 100 ramps have been installed on sidewalks at crosswalks throughout the city, said Don Jensen, director of engineering.
The money needed to build the ramps is based on city population and provided by the Orange County Transportation Commission. Every year, 2% of the county’s local transportation fund is earmarked for bikeway and pedestrian projects.
The city has applied for $19,298, which would be used to build ramps along Knott Avenue between Orangethorpe Avenue and La Palma Avenue and along Stanton Avenue between Beach Boulevard and Crescent Avenue. If the project is approved, construction could begin in January, Jensen said.
