LOCAL : Garden Grove Gas Leak Repaired
A ruptured gas line that caused the closure of major roadways in Garden Grove was repaired today, authorities said.
A 4-inch natural gas line began leaking about 5:40 p.m. Monday at the intersection of Euclid Street and Westminster Avenue, Garden Grove Police Sgt. Harlen Hanson said.
Police and fire crews blocked off the streets and surrounding areas about a quarter mile in each direction as a precaution, he said. A nearby gasoline station and restaurant were evacuated after the rupture.
Repairmen from Southern California Gas Co. capped the line about 3 a.m. today. The streets were opened to vehicle traffic 2 1/2 hours later, Hanson said.
The cause of the leak is unknown, a gas company spokeswoman said.
