City Council’s Pay Proposal
I don’t think the City Council is listening very well to the voters in tying the proposed ethics reform to a 40% pay raise. Ethics reform is crucial given the shenanigans of the past few years, but tying it to a pay raise is akin to greenmail or blackmail (take your pick).
In The Times former Sen. George McGovern tells how he wished he’d had private business experience including meeting a payroll every week --before he ran for President (March 1). “It gives you a whole new perspective on what other people worry about,” he said.
I feel that the City Council needs some of that private business experience, too, and to help them out, I plan to work very hard to ensure the two-term limit measure passes.
