LOARA BASEBALL TOURNAMENT
In the third-place game:
Katella 7, Servite 4--The score was tied, 4-4, in the seventh inning when Brandon Farley hit a one-out three-run home run to give Katella (4-1) the victory at Glover Stadium. All of Katella’s runs came on homers: Jeff Evans had a two-run shot in the fourth and Eric Boyd a two-run shot in the sixth.
In the fifth-place game:
El Dorado 9, Fountain Valley 4--Matt Svoboda went two for three and had two RBIs to lead an 11-hit attack for El Dorado (4-1), which built a 9-1 lead through six innings. Andy Brazeel (4-0), the second of four Golden Hawk pitchers, threw 2 1/3 innings for the victory. He entered the game with the bases loaded and two out in the third inning, striking out the next batter to preserve a 3-1 El Dorado lead.
In the seventh-place game:
Diamond Bar 5, Dana Hills 1--Kevin Ware was two for three with three RBIs and Mark Johnson pitched six innings, gave up two hits and struck out eight for Diamond Bar at Boysen Park.
In the consolation championship:
Villa Park 1, Newbury Park 0--Matt Quint’s sacrifice fly scored Chad Vert in the second inning for Villa Park.
In other consolation games:
Laguna Hills 8, Los Alamitos 2--Laguna Hills (3-4) was led by Tom Lloyd, who had four hits and scored three runs.
Sunny Hills 11, Savanna 2--Jason Sugarman had two hits, three runs scored, four RBIs and homered in the sixth and Ryan Frace homered with one on in the fourth inning.
La Quinta 1, Huntington Beach 0--A pick-off attempt was thrown away allowing La Quinta to score in the fifth inning. La Quinta’s John Miali pitched four perfect innings and Walter Dawkins (1-0) did not allow a hit in three innings, walking one and hitting one batter.
Western 8, Irvine 6--Host Western (2-2-1) was led by Robert Legender’s two doubles and three RBIs.
Marina 12, Anaheim 1--Robin Lindsey had three hits, including a three-run homer in the second, to lead host Marina (2-2-1).
University 3, Magnolia 1--Billy Thompson had two hits and an RBI to lead host Magnolia.
Pacifica 8, San Clemente 4--Host Pacifica was led by Chris Castellano’s two hits and three runs.
Santiago 10, Cypress 4--Steve Garza tripled with the bases loaded in top of seventh inning and had four RBIs to key a seven-run inning which brought Santiago (5-2) back from a 4-3 deficit. Adrian Borbon hit a two-run home run in the seventh for Santiago.
Riverside North 3, Kennedy 2--Randy Hernandez singled home Bill Brooks to give North the victory in the bottom of the seventh at Brookhurst Park.
