Three-time champion Susan Butcher made a dramatic dash that brought her up to 13th place after starting next to last in the 70-team field as the leaders in the Iditarod Trail Sled Dog Race checked in at Skwentna, Alaska.
Race officials reported Martin Buser still in the lead at the 194-mile mark after passing through Big Lake during the night.
Mushing across sparkling new snow, Butcher was 2 hours 49 minutes behind Buser when she checked in at Skwentna, a settlement of 120 people.
