Police are seeking information on the shooting death of an unidentified man whose body was discovered Tuesday morning in a car parked at the Southwestern headquarters of the J.C. Penney Co.

The shooting victim, described as a male in his 20s with black hair and brown eyes, was found at 8:15 a.m. during a routine check by one of several security guards at the facility in the 6000 block of Orangethorpe Avenue, Police Officer Rich McMillen said.

The man was not employed by the national department store chain, the officer added.

“When he (the guard) noticed the car parked there, he tried to wake the man up, and he didn’t move,†McMillen said, adding that the body had probably been there for several hours.

Police would not identify the victim, nor would they say if the man’s identity matched that of the car’s registered owner.

Police are investigating the death as a homicide; a gun was not found in the car or near the scene, McMillen said.

An autopsy is scheduled today.

Anyone with information is asked to contact the Buena Park Police Department at (714) 521-9352, Ext. 139 or 140, McMillen said.
