WORLD : Unicom, Film Company Merge
NEW YORK — Unicom Group said today it acquired a controlling interest in Motion Picture Services Cos., a film production company.
Unicom said the merger agreement was completed Feb. 16, and the deal adds a production unit to Unicom’s library of 150 foreign films.
Terms of the acquisition were not disclosed.
The company, whose net worth is $38 million, said Motion Picture President Don Gold and Vice President Richard Compton will join Unicom.
Gold co-produced the popular NBC television series “Miami Vice†for which Compton directed several episodes.
Also joining Unicom is Motion Picture’s Vice President Lou Fusaro, who contributed to several motion pictures such as “Romancing the Stone†and “Superman.â€
The three executives will join Unicom’s board of directors.
