California IN BRIEF : MAMMOTH LAKES : Body in Lake Goes Unrecovered
A renewed search for the last of seven victims who drowned in icy Convict Lake ended unsuccessfully Saturday, but authorities said they plan to try again. A video camera was lowered into the lake at 9:30 a.m. but by 4 p.m. only clothing and personal effects such as eyeglasses had been spotted, said Sue Padilla of the Mono County Sheriff’s Department. The body of Dave (Grandpa) Meyers, 53, of Bishop was spotted by the camera Wednesday but the water clouded over before divers could go down to recover it. He was a counselor at Camp O’Neal who died Monday with three teen-age boys from the camp, another counselor and two would-be rescuers.
