Toxic Strategy
The letters of Feb. 18 responding to the recent effort to “rate†rock/rap lyrics (on grounds of decency) must be an inspiration to companies that dump toxic waste. If not, then they’re missing out on a wonderful strategy. Here it is:
First, you call your toxic-waste dumping an “artistic expression†based on freedom of speech. Second, if anyone complains or tries to inhibit such freedom, simply call them censors or fundamentalists or bigots. Such buzzwords will aid your cause.
These two steps alone may ensure success. Not only will the dumping continue, but you may even get government funding.
