SUNSET LEAGUE GIRLS’ BASKETBALL ROUNDUP : A Record Performance for Fischer : Girls’ basketball: Edison guard breaks records for points and three-pointers and ties another in victory over Westminster.
Debbie Fischer scored a school-record 49 points, broke the Southern Section records for career and season three-pointers and tied her single-game Southern Section record with 10 three-point baskets to lead Edison High School to a 88-33 victory over Westminster in a Sunset League girls’ basketball game Thursday at Edison.
Fischer’s 10 three-pointers tied the record she set in December against Corona. She also broke her school single-game record of 40 points.
Fischer has 92 three-pointers this season, which broke the record of 66 set by Linda Watson of Lynwood last season. Fischer has 100 career three-pointers, which broke the record of 79 set by Judy Gilliam of Glendora in 1987-88.
“I guess somewhere somebody had 12 three-pointers in a game and it wasn’t reported, so we wanted Debbie to have a chance (to be the undisputed record-holder),†Edison coach Philip Abraham said. “In third quarter, I said to my assistant coaches . . . let her go for it (12). I said to her, ‘Debbie you have eight three pointers†because she didn’t know.â€
“The third quarter was really great for me. After I hit two (three-pointers) I said, ‘Give me the ball!’ †Fischer said.
