Bruce Coslet and Joe Bugel, veteran assistant coaches in the NFL, became head coaches.
Coslet, the Cincinnati Bengals’ offensive coordinator, was hired by the New York Jets to succeed Joe Walton. Bugel, the offensive coordinator for the Washington Redskins, replaces Gene Stallings and interim coach Hank Kuhlmann with the Phoenix Cardinals.
Coslet, 43, takes over a Jet team that went from an 8-7-1 record in 1988 to 4-12 last season.
Bugel, 49, inherits a team that was 5-11 in 1989, its fifth consecutive losing season.
