Washington Post Co.: The publisher of the Washington Post and Newsweek reported net income for 1989 of $197.9 million, down 26.5% from 1988. Revenue was $1.44 billion, up 5.6% over the previous year. The 1988 earnings included non-recurring gains of $103.1 million from the sale of the Washington-based firm’s interests in cellular telephone operations. Excluding one-time items, net income was up 19%.
