Freeze-Hit Florida Areas to Get U.S. Disaster Aid

WASHINGTON — President Bush declared parts of Florida to be a major disaster area Monday, clearing the way for federal aid to farm communities that suffered losses from a severe winter freeze that began Dec. 23, the White House said.
The aid, to be administered by the Federal Emergency Management Agency, will include unemployment compensation “to individuals who are unemployed as a direct result of the freeze.”
