25 Hold Rally Against Expansion of Landfill
Critics of the proposed Sunshine Canyon Landfill expansion demonstrated in Granada Hills on Monday, urging residents to oppose the plan at a county hearing this week.
About 25 people attended the rally at Bee Canyon Park, complaining that the larger dump will create health hazards and destroy an oak forest.
Browning-Ferris Industries is seeking to extend its 230-acre landfill north of Granada Hills in the city of Los Angeles onto 542 acres it owns nearby, just outside the city limits.
The Los Angeles County Regional Planning Commission began a public hearing on the proposal in November. The hearing resumes at 9 a.m. Wednesday in the County Hall of Records.
