GE Plans Most Powerful Jet Engine: General Electric Co. plans to develop what it claims will be the world’s most powerful commercial jet engine, the Hartford Courant reported. GE’s planned turbofan, called GE90, is intended to be ready by 1994 and would offer up to 95,000 pounds of thrust for a new generation of jumbo jets that could carry more passengers over longer distances.
