THE SIDELINES : Gtech Joins Oregon Lottery Suit
PORTLAND, Ore. — The company that supplies equipment and services for the Sports Action betting game has joined the state of Oregon in asking that the NBA’s lawsuit against the Oregon Lottery be dismissed.
Gtech Corp. of Providence, R.I., one of the defendants in the lawsuit, filed the motion Thursday in U.S. District Court in Eugene.
The Oregon attorney general’s office filed a motion for dismissal Wednesday.
The NBA lawsuit says the Sports Action game, the nation’s only lottery game based on pro sports, violates state and federal law because it is not a game of chance. The game allows people to wager $1 or more on three to 14 professional football or basketball games against point spreads set by a Las Vegas odds maker.
The NBA is expected to file its response within 10 days.
