Nation : Campus Nails Shoe Sneak Thief
MADISON, Wis. — Police on the University of Wisconsin campus have solved the case of the missing shoes.
Detective Herb Hanson said today that a 33-year-old Iowa man has admitted to taking side trips from Dubuque to Madison for five years to steal shoes. The man preferred taking penny loafers and deck shoes, sizes 8 to 9 1/2, from students studying at campus libraries.
Hanson said the victims, most of whom were students, would kick off their shoes under a table while studying and would either take a nap or get up for a drink of water, only to discover later the shoes were gone.
Hanson declined to identify the suspect but said he is under the care of a therapist. He said the suspect was convicted in a missing shoe case in Illinois last July.
