Woman Killed Trying to Cross the Street
A woman was struck and killed by a car Wednesday while crossing Hazeltine Avenue in Van Nuys, the Los Angeles Police Department reported.
The woman, whose name was withheld until relatives could be notified, was pronounced dead at Sherman Oaks Community Hospital shortly after the 5:10 p.m. accident at Hazeltine and Calvert Street, Officer Dennis Smith said. She was not in a crosswalk when she was struck by a car driven by Ralph Hishime, 68, of Sherman Oaks, who was not injured or cited, Smith said.
A motorist struck a police car parked nearby as she attempted to notify an officer about the accident, Smith said, but the officer was not hurt.
