Glendora : Hillside Building Ban Sought

The slow-growth group Glendora Pride will start gathering signatures Jan. 5 in an effort to put on the ballot a 180-day moratorium on hillside development. The group’s announcement Tuesday follows the Council’s Nov. 28 rejection of a 45-day moratorium that had been recommended by the Mayor’s Hillside Conservancy Advisory Committee.

Judy Lawford, the group’s president, said a building freeze is necessary to give the city time to toughen development guidelines for the foothills, as recommended by the conservancy committee.

“This will be used as a campaign issue,” she said, referring to the April elections when the terms of Mayor Len Martyns, Mayor Pro Tem Bob Kuhn and Councilwoman Lois Shade expire.
