Three reputed gang members--ages 13, 14 and 15--were in custody Monday in the shooting death of a rival aboard a crowded Rapid Transit District bus, Los Angeles police said.
The victim, Francisco Sanchez, 18, a Los Angeles High School student, was shot to death Friday in a confrontation aboard a bus shortly after it pulled away from Crenshaw and Venice boulevards in Southwest Los Angeles.
Wilshire Division Detective Dan Andrews credited mothers of two of the boys with aiding in the investigation, which led to the arrest of two of the youths within hours of the shooting and the apprehension of the accused 15-year-old gunman early Saturday. “Their attitude is, if you did something you have to be accountable for it,” Andrews said.
The three suspects, all students at Mt. Vernon Junior High School, were in custody at juvenile hall pending arraignment.
