POP/ROCK - Dec. 1, 1989
Red Cross Looks to the Stars: Simultaneous benefit concerts featuring major musical and comedy acts will be staged in Los Angeles and Charlotte, N.C. on Dec. 17 to replenish the American Red Cross disaster relief fund exhausted by Hurricane Hugo and the Northern California earthquake. The concerts will be taped and shown in a two-hour Christmas spectacular airing nationwide Dec. 26 on CBS. A show at the Universal Amphitheater will be a variety production, while the performance at the Charlotte Coliseum will feature rock music, according to an organizer. All the acts have not been signed, but such performers as Julian Lennon, Paula Abdul, Sam Kinison, Debbie Gibson, David Lee Roth, .38 Special and Billy Squire have promised, if not committed, to appear.
