Gardena Girls Win Tennis Title
Gardena High won its second consecutive City Section 3-A girls tennis title Tuesday by defeating Franklin, 4-3, at the Racket Center in Studio City.
Gardena finished the year 18-0.
Senior Julie Oshiro beat her opponent 6-0, 6-1, to lead a singles sweep by Gardena. Oshiro is seeded No. 1 in the City individual playoffs, which combines 4-A and 3-A.
“We expected to sweep the singles,†Coach Daron Andrade said. “That’s what gave us the victory.â€
Sophomore Mindy Watanabe and juniors Tiffany Kuwahara and Chris Ann Yamamoto completed the singles sweep for the Mohicans in the best-of-three matches.
“We have worked so hard,†Andrade said. “We’ve had a great year.â€
